In a Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, former striker Michael Osei, also known by his nickname “Ember Power,” remembered how he shocked late president Jerry John Rawlings by scoring the game-winning goal.

On March 1, 2000, Kotoko defeated their fierce rival to win the JOT Agyemang Cup thanks to a single goal from Osei, who was playing in his first Super Clash game.

When recounting the incident, he claimed that Rawlings called him a small boy and gave him a handshake during the award presentation, which indicated that the former present was impressed.

“The Kotoko-Hearts match I enjoyed most was the JOT Agyemang game. It was my first Kotoko-Hearts game. We won 1-0 and I scored the goal. That was the first time I had a handshake with JJ Rawlings. I shook his hand and he pointed at me and said “youngboy!” he said.

One of the most productive strikers to have represented the Porcupine Warriors is Michael Osei.

Between 2000 and 2005, he worked at Kotoko for five years. In 2002, he led all scorers in the now-defunct CAF Winners Cup.
