The 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ Best New Artist nomination for Ghanaian musician Jay Bahd has been contested.
Austine Woode, a broadcast journalist and Academy member of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, has petitioned the event’s organizers, Charterhouse, regarding the inclusion of Jay Bahd in the Best New Artist category after the introduction of a one-week provisional window for dispute resolution for this year’s awards scheme.
The journalist argued that Jah Bahd was ineligible to be nominated in the specified category by citing several reasons.
Austine referred to the Best Collaboration candidacy of the well-known song Sore in the 2021 VGMA nominations, which he said inevitably qualified Jay Bahd for a nomination, and he did so by citing the category definition of Best New Artist.
Additionally, he drew conclusions from analogous circumstances and the organizer’s previous stance on similar circumstances.
