Court Rejects Anas’ GHC25m Defamation Suit Against Ken Agyapong

Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ 25 million defamation lawsuit against Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a member of parliament for Assin Central, was dismissed by the Accra High Court.

According to 3news.com, Judge Eric Baah, the judge, believes Anas Aremeyaw is right. The documentary “Who watches the watchman” highlighted dubious deals that Anas and his friends were engaged in, not that Ken Agyapong defamed him as Anas claimed.

The investigative journalist Anas has filed a GH$25 million lawsuit against the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) for remarks the MP is claimed to have made against Anas in public following the broadcast of his investigative piece #Number 12, which highlighted several flaws in Ghanaian football.

Background

Anas Aremeyaw Anas, a renowned international investigative journalist, sued Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, for defamation at some point in 2018.

Anas was requesting that the High Court grant aggravated damages in the amount of GHC 25 million due to the MP’s publication of defamatory materials.

He claimed that after writing an explosive article on the corruption in Ghanaian football, the MP had been discrediting him by publishing materials.

Anas, through his attorney Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, filed a lawsuit against Mr. Agyapong for general damages for defamation in the defendant’s publications after becoming dissatisfied with the MP’s acts.

The legitimate attorney to represent Anas has been granted to a journalist named Listowell Yesu Bukarson.
